Prior to incorporating HPS Food & Ingredients, our founders have been active in promoting, marketing, and integrating specialty ingredients into every aspect of their careers. They have been proponents of crop rotations, zero tillage, improving soil health since the early 1900s. As specialty commodities started to take root in Canada during the late 1990s, the foundations for the new company which would later be called HPS Food & Ingredients started to emerge. With a common goal in mind, the company started to attract team members from across North America with a deep knowledge and passion toward plant based foods, cutting edge agronomy and sustainable food systems and agriculture.

In the early 1900s the Meier family who were farmers from Minnesota moved to Saskatchewan, Canada to try their hand at farming in the Northern Prairies.
1940s
Following WW2, Meier Farms grew steadily with a focus on incorporating farmiing innovations and best practices. The farm grew wheat, barley, oats, peas, and flax.
1950s and 60s
Meier Brothers Farms grew to be one of the largest growers in Saskatchewan, with as much as 20,000 acres in culivation, a rarity at that time.
1990s
The demand for growing hempseed for food and led to the development of varieties suited for across the Great Plains.
2005
The strong relationships with growers from creating industry leading genetics, led the company into hempseed ingredient processing.
2014
In 2015, Hemp Production Services was born and started supplying customers globally.
2015
The HPS team has grown rapidly, and in 2019 a new office in Saskatoon was opened to bring genetics, plant breeding, and food ingredients into a central location.
2019
Hemp Production Services was rebranded as HPS Food & Ingredients (Healthy Protein Solutions) to expand the portfolio adding in new functional ingredients.
2020
HPS is launching its first offering of the Faba Bean ingredient, made from low-vicine, zero tannin beans grown and processed in Canada.
